Giants
My "Giants" series emerges from a 2008 daydream where colossal beings appeared on Earth without discernible purpose. While conventional narratives position otherworldly encounters as inherently confrontational, this work interrogates our response to entities that transcend our significance through their indifference. The work considers how a child's perspective—unburdened by existential status—might more readily adapt to such ontological displacement.
These monumental figures function as metaphors for overwhelming forces in contemporary existence—the anxiety produced by unknowable powers that simultaneously promise transcendence and threaten consumption. They embody both aspirational elements—progress, technology, benevolence—and oppressive systems—patriarchy, authoritarianism, hegemonic structures. Ultimately, the Giants manifest as visual investigations of perceived power and its potential impotence when its foundations are exposed.
